Ok first off florence itself is the best place to be for new years, people are allover the piazzas, its amazing...i was at the arno when it hit 12am and it was amazing, the people singing, cheering and throwing champagne allover the place..WOW ITS AWESOME!!!!!!!!

Best depends on what your particular interests are. The official Firenze (Florence) party guide is here: http://english.firenze.net/turismo/cm_de... The one at the Uffizi Center was pretty good the year I was in Florence for New Year's. Venice is a good place to go too.
