I am going to Queretaro from Missouri, and would like any and all information to get there safely. Which highways, tourist attractions, where to eat, every thing you can think of. Thanks, please no ignorant things. I will report it.

  1. I'll be honest with you... I would NOT drive into Mexico unless I had done it before, was with someone who knew the location, or had a guide. It can be dangerous. I had a friend FROM Mexico who was driving into the states and not but several miles before getting to the US/ Mexico border, he was flagged down and mugged by "banditos" or "cholos." Thankfully, his family had told him this was a possibility and so he didn't bring much money with him. At any rate, it was a very frightening experience. If it were me, I would take a bus or even fly first.

  2. El Paso I'm saying that because I live there everyone is used to people crossing back and forth.

  3. First of all I agree with what was said by fraggler, driving is not always the best solution when traveling in Mexico. It is a lot safer to take the bus or other forms of transportation. I travel frequently to Mexico and from my experience the best place to cross the border is in Matamoros/Brownsville. I know that is a little further than from where you are coming from but it is worth it. I find Laredo and other places to be more dangerous. Queretaro is not that far from my home in San Luis Potosi, infact I am only min from the border. It is a beautiful state, hope you have a wonderful trip. Oh and Tamaulipas is the state at the border.

  4. Hi!, I recommend you to cross the border in Matamoros Tamaulipas because I have some relatives who live in Texas and they often cross the border, and at least once a year they travel to Querétaro. A month ago I went to Matamoros from Mexico city,  and I could say you the way is in excellent conditions and it is secure. Have a good trip!

  5. You are DRIVING?   If you have never driven in Mexico...it certainly can be done, but is challenging.  Some roads are excellent, others awful. Some have good signs, some have no signs and you can get lost easily.  NEVER drive after sunset due to poor road conditions when you least expect it and animals on the road. You will need to buy a Guia Roji, the Mexican road atlas..absolutely nesessary.  You can order it from Amazon.com.  You will need Mexican car ins.  See 2nd site for my favorite. See 3rd site for info on the car permit you must get.   See 4th for map and suggested route.  There are really no  tourist places to go n the way. The trip will take you at least 3 days, maybe 4.  Do not buy food or drinks from street vendors.  Do you speak  at least passable Spanish?  Another option is to take the bus.  You can check with Greyhound...they coordinate with the Mexican bus lines...which are excellent.
