Where is the best place to get a cockatiel

i live in Conyers Georgia and i read all about cockatiels and im ready to get one.but i dont want to just go to any place and get one without knowing if it's a good place to get one. so i just want to know where is the best place to get one in conyers georgia?

I would suggest joining a Yahoo Group that is devoted to cockatiels.  You'll be able to ask any questions you have and research breeders in the area.  Try to find a breeder that hand feeds and *socializes* the babies.  A bird that is hand fed but just plopped back into a brooder hasn't learned to appreciate the human touch but a breeder who spends time at each feeding cuddling the birds and playing with them will likely deliver a bird that is used to people and looks forward to being with them.  It will still be a bit afraid when it comes to a new home but that's only natural :-)  It will be MUCH easier to handle though than a parent raised bird or a bird that hasn't been handled in awhile (ie: sitting in a pet store).

Get recommendations for breeders, ask for references and follow up.  Hopefully you'll find the perfect little bird :-)

For starters, try searching for a local bird rescue first. They have birds there that need homes - thats where I got my cockatiel. Look for one that is healthy and active.

If you don't find a shelter near you, or don't like any of the birds there, find a reputable breeder of cockatiels.  

Do not go to the pet shop for birds.
