  1. I agree with squatchimo. Skimp on the frame if you have to but get a good quality progressive. You certainly don't need the newest Varilux progressive with wavefront technology. The old Varilux comfort will do you just fine at much less cost, as a matter of fact inquire about the essilor Natural or Ovation. Those are a couple of good progressives and shouldn't cost you a fortune.

  2. Progressives are a different beast and I certainly wouldn't get the bottom of the barrel progressives unless that's all you've ever worn.

What the discount places, who propagate these $99 no-line sales, never tell you is that there are hundreds of different kinds of progressives out there.  Not all no-lines are alike.  Some are good, some very old and bad.  You get what you pay for with them.

What the discount places do with their no-line advertising is essentially like a car dealership having an ad that says "Get a new car for $10,000", and then selling you a 1987 Taurus.

  3. If you have an EyeMasters in your area, they are running a special--two pair with progressive lenses, frames up to $69 value, for $149. I've gotten glasses there several times and have always been pleased.
