  1. Well done, keep away from the tourist traps. My suggestion would be to just go, and see what turns up. The more you move away from the cities, the cheaper things get. Look around, haggle and there is sun everywhere. Although I like the mountains better myself.

  2. There are so many places to visit!! Are you thinking about staying in one place only or having a tour around and see more?

Well, a couple of years ago a friend of mine came for the first time in Greece. Here's what we did. We spend two days in Athens to visit museums, the Acropolis and Plaka. Left for Santorini, an island worth visiting I assure you, and after that we returned to Pireus and went to Hydra and Spetses two islands close to Athens, very beautiful both. After that we went to the mainland and visited Nafplio, the old capital of Greece, visited the ancient theatre of Epidaurus and went back to Athens. All these places have beautiful beaches too. But as I said it depends on what YOU want to do, and how long are you planning to stay. Having a tour means that you must have enough time to spend around. If you are planning to stay in one place only, then the best choice would be one of the islands. If you search on the internet you'll find which one appeals to your interests the most.

  4. been there many years ago and it is not worth it.  the best place to be is about 3 miles out in the Aegean Sea.

  5. Athens is a must as far as culture and history is concerned.

August is a very busy month and very hot.If you decide to stay in mainland there are many interesting places to visit, like Nafplio, the ancient theatre of Epidavros a must see,Ancient Corinth and along the way you can enjoy the sea, especially if you don't take the highway.

All the Greek islands are amazing and all of them have something different to offer, but  I love Crete.

It's a big island and you don't see the millions of people visiting. The food is incredibly delicious with the amazing olive oil that  they use .

Hania an old port city is something to see in the summer, also Agios Nikolaos and  Vai on the other side of Crete
