Have a look at this site. The east coast of Scotland is different to the west coast in climate and culture.

Morayshire has a micro climate as the Gulf Stream ends there. The sea water is warmer than elsewhere and the east coast has golden sandy beaches. If you like golf, Carnoustie is as good as St Andrew's and a darn site cheaper!

Visitscotland can tell you a lot of stuff.

I thought it would be rotten up here. I'm from Dorset. I've been here over 30 years and I love it. Dundee has everything you need from a big city and it's a friendly place in the centre.

  5. For a city break steeped in history I would recommend Edinburgh or Stirling.  Glasgow also has a lot to offer but is more of an industrial type of city.  The dining and nightlife is very good though.

For scenery I would check out the west coast - Loch Lomond and the Trossachs are absolutely breathtaking.

Further north there is Loch Ness and Culloden - the site of the last battle fought between the English and the Scots when Bonnie Prince Charlie attempted to reclaim his throne.

Or you could try Aviemore in the Cairngorms if you fancy a bit of climbing or skiiing.

In terms of the best time of year, I would say April, May or June but really you take your chances with the weather at any time of year here!

Hope you have a good time!

  6. It depends on what you want to do. If you want shopping and walking in the streets of a big city I would say Edinburgh or Glasgow.

  7. Go to the Isle Of Arran. It is really, like they say, Scotland in miniature. It has everything that the rest of Scotland has, except for city/nightlife, all within an hours drive.

  8. What about Arbroath just outside Dundee?

I've got a caravan up there and at this time of year you can expect to be slapping on the factor 30 it's usually really warm.

Great place if you have kids and it's near Dundee and Aberdeen! Great place!

  9. I have been on holiday to Scotland twice.  The best one was staying on the banks of Loch Lomand. From there, we went to Dumbarton Castle, hired a boat on the loch, drove to Stirling, visited a Safari park near Stirling which was good, and there are plenty of walks and scenery. If you do go to Loch Lomond, a nice place to go for a good sunset is in Drymen. There is a view point over the loch and hills and it is the most amazing (and romantic) view. So much so I got engaged there!

    Happy holidays!
