Late at night? I want to keep my options open for a late night adventure. Any serious advice?

Try the mayor's desk.  If it's good enough to inflict on the citizens of the city, he should be willing to put up with it too.

Seriously, though - if it's not too chilly out try the area around the north end of the Golden Gate Bridge - the views at night are said to be spectacular.

Behind the rocks on the north end of Baker Beach is nice.  Also, some prefer the trails near the windmills at the western edge of Golden Gate Park (though these are now frequently patrolled by police, so be very careful).
