i am 21 and have very general knowledge, but i'd like to become an expert in the field. im an accounting major and have 2 yrs left to complete my undergrad. i've been reading up on a few sites i find online, forum sites even, and am now reading a finance book. i've been researching possible careers in the field and not only will having extensive knowledge in these topics help me in the future, but i plan to invest some of my income eventually as well. if there are any sites with video tutorials i think that will help me the best, otherwise let me know what else is out there please. thanks in advance

  1. Barney gave you some great information that will be a big help for you

You could start now by paper trading, you can use "My Portfolio" in Yahoo Finance http://finance.yahoo.com/

Why not try to get a summer job with a brokerage firm or in the investment department at a bank, or mutual fund company

But the list of books and sites you got will keep you busy for a while

  2. Sounds like you have a great start.  I am a former sell side analyst covering financials, and now I work at a hedge fund.  I double-majored in finance and accounting as an undergrad, got my CPA and MBA and am now studying for the CFA.  You might want to consider a similar combination.

Investopedia is a great site to learn more about finance and accounting.

But you might want to add finance as another major or minor to get more theoretical training.

Also, for careers, go to vault.com and subscribe. This will inform you about the different firms out there.  Plus, Vault has a lot of good books that you can buy.  I would highly recommend many of them.

If you want to learn about fixed income securities (i.e., bonds), pick up a copy of a Fabozi book.  It is very thick, but it is written so that it isn't so difficult to understand.

    Good luck!!
