I'm moving to New Zealand in February to study at the University of Auckland. As a student I'm on a budget. I love going out and having fun so night life is key. I'm super active and love the out doors so access to outdoor activites would be great too.

  1. I think for a student the best place to live would be the college dorms.

  2. Somewhere in the city would probably suit you, there's a lot of apartments and places around there. I'm not sure about night life, but I just asked my club-going friend and she said that the places to be [depending on the night of the week] are Parnell, Takapuna and Ponsonby.

As for outdoors, the Auckland Domain [where the museum is] is a huge park which is good for going for runs etc, and there's plenty of places to walk just around the city - like up Queen Street for shops or down by the marina where the America's Cup was once held. Plus in Auckland there are beaches within an hour's drive max. from anywhere.

    Hope this helped!

  3. Hey no matter where you live in Auckland its pretty pricey, but you have a couple of options.  You could check out the AU dorms theres quite a few I believe, but AU student services would be the place to check regarding these.  Getting your own apartment in Auckland City and getting a flatmate is another way to save you money, try www.cityrentals.co.nz for some really good Auckland apartments.  Living on the outskirts of town like Grey Lynn, Mt Eden, Sandringham, New Market etc are another cheaper option, its still close to town, directly on the public transport routes, and are some really nice areas to live in.  Clubbing wise, you can definately always find a good time in Auckland City, there is a big range of clubs pretty much to suit all tastes.  GOOD LUCK

  4. I would sugest you to live In the central city. There are more apartments than needed so there shouldn't be any problem for you to find one. But keep in mind that apartments are not cheap and the best way is to find a flatmate to live with you as far as budget is concerned. Otherwise I would recommend you to live close to the city like Mt Eden, Mt Roskill which is about 5 min. away from the city by bus. There are lots of pubs and night clubs in the city which will definitely suit your lifestyle.

  5. You can flat somewhere in the central area of Auckland quite cheaply - you'll just need to flat with about 4 other people to keep your rent down.  My suggestion is to look through the Trade & Exchange, NZ Herald and even on notice boards around Auckland Uni for what is available.

If you're into the night life and on a budget you definitely don't want to live on the North Shore or anywhere that takes longer than 10min to drive from the Viaduct otherwise you'll pay far too much in taxi fares all the time which will definitely blow your budget.

    Best of luck!
