  1. Probably central Mexico (not Mexico City of course) would be your best choice: Queretaro, San Miguel de Allende or Guanjuato. They are all medium size cities, with great weather all-year-long, low crime, many cultural activities and well contected to Mexico City.

  2. well the coasts aren't always the best year-round, but if i had my choice, I'd choose the heartland...not Mexico City, but the surrounding areas such as Guanajuato, Michoacan, San Luis Potosi, etc, and I'd travel to the different coastal areas at the  times of best weather.

  3. Ok...I have a home in Chetumal, Quintano Roo. (about 3-4 hours from Cancaun on the Belize border. So if you don't speak spanish that well you can go shopping in Belize in the free zone (duty and tax free) and its very tropical there. I love it there. With 200,000 you could live a very long time but my advice to you is budget it out and buy a house for about 50,000 something nice ya know. Don't let alot of people klnow you have money due to kidnapping an stuff but that all depends on where you live in Chetumal they dont do that but mexico city and stuff be aware....

    Good Luck~

  4. Mawderuiz is rigth.

An american citizen probably would prefer San Miguel de Allende or a colonial city in central México.

    The advantages of Monterrey are.

It is a big, modern and cosmopolitan city. Just 150 miles from the border. With breathtaking mountains arround. A beautiful place.

Despite the last year there was a rising in the crime rate, it only involved the gangs members, who are now being fought by the federal government.

You will find in Monterrey a lot of malls, department stores (many are the same in USA, HEB, Wallmart, Office depot, Home depor, plus the mexican stores). Yo will find seven universities, a lot of social services, very good medicine, several golf courses, several lakes to practice fishing, many places to go hunting, or to go camping.

  5. Monterrey, Nuevo Leon!

I got my house for $24,000; but I think it is valued at $30,000 now. It is a large city, so you wouldn't be lacking in any American desires, but just Mexican enough to get the spice of life!

(The weather is just like Austin, Texas... one day hot, one day cold, one day rainy, one day dry... it makes it fun trying to guess what tomorrow will be like!)

  6. I lived in Cuernavaca de Morelos for a while.  So beautiful.  They call it the city of eternal spring due to the weather climate.  Lots to do and its only about 1.5 hours from D.F. and only 4 hrs from Acapulco.  There are a lot of nice homes in the mountains because rich people from Mexico City use it as their weekend getaway.
