Can any one please advise on the best place to live in Perth with a toddler? We are active people - like to go to the gym or classes (yoga, dancing) or running, swimming - when we can!

I would like to live somewhere that has activities for toddlers, and activities for adults (as above), a library, shops nearby.

Good transport is a must as we don't have a car and my husband needs to get to work in the town centre.

To be perfect - would like rent about $300 a week - and a view of water! how much do I want?!!!

  1. Suburbs north of the river have more to offer I prefer

Mullaloo, Ocean Reef, Mindarie, Joondalup all have good schools too.

  2. Anywhere around Perth or Fremantle will be way too expensive renting. Some places north of the river have high rent as well. How about Secret Harbour? Its got a new high school the primary school has a great reputation, theres a great gym, new shops near by and the beach is beautiful plus the rents are reasonable and public transport is reliable. All your partner would have to do is catch a bus to the train station in Rockingham then the train to Perth. Theres also the new coogee beach.

  3. I live near Durban, S. Africa and have only been to Perth a couple of times, but would like to live there myself. So I had a good look around when I was there. Take what I say with a pinch of salt!

Firstly there is a very good rail service which links you to the bus transport system. So get a place out of town that's within walking distance of one of the railway stations. That gives you a pretty good big choice.

Guilford is nice, but so is the area north Perth. Take a good place, stay there for 6 months, then you will know where you want to live.

The really good places in Perth are just too expensive.

But Perth is a great place.

  4. we used to stay in south perth,it has a good view of the swan river. it has a park that is child-friendly, your toddler could roam around there without you worrying every minute.

the library is just a bus ride away, transportation is not a problem here unless you would be out until late night. the buses comes on a time schedule, better to get a copy of their bus numbers, destinations and time schedules. this is available in most libraries, trains staions and from the bus drivers as well.

another would be in east victoria park where there is a park centre nearby, and beside it is the library. parks are all over the place. each suburb has a park and most of them have their own shopping centres.

  5. Scaborough is near the beach and there are alot of play groups in the area for toddlers.  Scarborough has a bus service to Glendalough station.  search for rentals at www.realestate.com.au   If Scarborough is too expensive, try Innaloo and Doubleview and Woodlands which are near by.  or Yokine or Tuart Hill which are closer to the city.  Oh and Mount Hawthorn..
