My husband got posted to brussels for his job and i am looking for the best place to live. i have 6 kids ranging from 4-16 years. i need some where close to shops, good schools, parks and not too far from the centre of brussels. 30 mins tops. we are french and english so that really isnt a problem. Money isnt a problem either we are very wealthy so a posh suburb would be good. Somewhere with low crime rates would be great. and some where kid friendly.

i have heard of a place called Ukkel/Uccle, is this a great option or not.

  1. Hi, again!

I did give you info last week and yes, Uccle - which I forgot to mention -, is also an excellent place to live although it is less green (going towards Drogenbos) than some previously mentioned communes. It is next to Ixelles & Waterloo and has some international schools too. Uccle is mostly French speaking.

Il y a, actuellement, plus de maisons à vendre ou à louer sur Waterloo que sur Uccle. Waterloo is becoming more and more attractive as it is planning to build a RER (kind of subway) linking it directly to the center of Brussels.

All the mentioned "communes"are neighbours and are all situated in safe and poshy parts of South Brussels.

    Hope this helps.

    Enjoy home hunting.

  2. Most expats live in Uccle, Waterloo, Overijse or Woluwe StPierre.  I would suggest WSP:

-not far to the airport or Nato office area

-not far from city centre, so no traffic jams to Avenue Louise or Schumann area

    -subway

    -nice shopping centres

    -close to city parks

-beautifull houses if money isn't a problem

-many wealthy people prefer Woluwe to Uccle, but it's not so known as Uccle and it has less trendy restaurants and bars, but at night WSP is only 15min. by car from Uccle

I would avoid Uccle, Waterloo & Overijse for the traffic jams (public transport system is planned but not to be finished until 2012)

  3. I'm from Brussels. There are three good places to live in Brussels with good schools, shops and parks nearby: one is Uccle, the other one is Woluwé-St-Lambert and the last one Woluwé-St-Pierre. You'll find other places outside Brussels, but I think that with one of these, from what you said, best Uccle, you'll be fine.
