  1. Why believe somebody on here - here is a respected article on this very subject.

  2. Austin. But don't move here. We have enough damned yankee transplants as it is.

  3. Minnesota is the best, but dont think places in the south like florida are anything special, they are fun to visit, but it sucks living there.

  4. San Francisco Bay area, see why in http://www.bayareavisit.com/

  5.      There are so many things going on here that you need to decide a few things for yourself. You can find work in whatever your field in almost any city or state. Consider the following:

    - what climate you prefer;

    - urban, rural, or really out there somewheres;

    - college choices, if any;

    - if you want to live near fellow expats;

         For example, it may sound strange yet if you want the individualism and freedom of less structured cultures consider Nevada, Arizona, Alaska, or Idaho. Unless you're committing a forcible felony people tend to leave you be in states such as that. Weather on the west coast tends to be nicer in any given time of the year. Despite the stupid crack somebody made about the South, Englishmen fit in easily down there, as it is populated by Scots, Scots/Irish, and English. The Midwest tends to have four distinct seasons  -  you can see all four in one day in St. Louis here and there. I myself have a house in Seattle and another in Arizona. Thick woods? Definitely the South and Pacific Northwest. Nightlife varies; I agree with those who say that New York, Austin, Texas, New Orleans, and Seattle have the best. If you absolutely, positively  want to be murdered overnight then Detroit and St. Louis can fix you right up. It's all about what you want. If you have a chance you might want to take a few weeks for a quick drive around the country. Split the cost with some friends. If that seems costly, remember  -  Americans tend to get around a lot so they know their favorite places  -  you don't. Pieces of America are so different from one another that some particular spot may bring out something in you that you never knew was there. I was born and raised in the South, spent years living in California, twenty more in Washington State, and the last twelve between there and Arizona. Phoenix you can keep, but something about gold panning in 119F desert moves me. If you decide to pitch in with us, welcome!

  6. New York.

  7. Lexington, Kentucky

    Columbus, Ohio

    Cincinnati, Ohio

    Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

  8. Madison/Middleton, WI is consistently in Money Magazine's top choices of cities to live.  It is not a big city, but has great amenities.
