Question:

Where is the best place to observe the stars and planets near the New York tri state area?

I live in Connecticuit. Anywhere that I can go star gazing? I might takea vacation up to somewhere that has a beautiful night sky. I need answers.

  1. As someone who lives in New York (upstate area) all I can say is to take a trip into the Adirondack Mountains. You'll find some of the clearest skies you've ever seen. It's a bit of a hike for you in CT, but if you're looking for a great weekend trip try Blue Mountan Lake (they have a great museum too!), or Long Lake. That's where my family always went and  know that it's gorgeous there.


  2. Since you said "tri-state" I figure you are willing to do some traveling.  If you go to the northwest, toward the Canadian border, there are some fairly dark areas.  But western Pennsylvania has the best.  Cherry Springs State Park is probably the best place in northeast US to go.

    Another good place, probably closer to you, is Adirondack State Park in upstate New York.  Go where it is at least 100 miles south-southwest of Montreal.
