Question:

Where is the best place to sell an item worth over £2000 on the internet?

Hi all, I want to get rid of my bedroom furniture. The whole set, (dresser, king size bed, wardrobe and mirror) cost me around £5000, as it is made from real mahogany, and hand crafted in Italy.

So my questions are these:

1.Do you think ebay is a good place to sell something of this value?

2.How would I go about doing so, sell each piece individually or as a whole set?

I've only seen bedroom furniture sell up to around £700 on eBay, but I don't think I can find anything which has sold for more... I know I won't get £5000, but its only three years old and in very good condition!

Should I sell it on eBay with a reserve, how can i convince eBayers understand the quality of such items even without sounding too patronising?

....or should I try to sell it in the local newspaper? Gumtree...?

Any help will do! Thank you!

  1. instead off selling it keep it fro a few years and it would be worth alot more

  2. Try ebay ... explain how valuable it is and set a reserve of close to a price you want for it.

Gumtree is also a good place to advertise and local papers you cant go wrong with !

  3. how are you going to ship it if the buyer is not local? - the shipping could cost more than the furniture and no one would be willing to buy it then - sell thru local newspaper

  4. I don't think you'll get anything close to the price you want on ebay, though i am sure its a beautiful set people won't generally be looking to spend that much. You may be better off on an auction website that specialises in hand crafted furniture, somewhere it will be seen for its full potential. A local furniture specialist will be able to give you an estimate of its value and maybe be able to put you in contact with somone who might want to buy it.

  5. why not try your local auction house? you could always put a reserve of £2000 on it.

if you dont know where your local auction house is try www.the-saleroom.co.uk they list the local auction houses

  6. Sell your furniture on MarketWall:

    http://marketwall.com

MarketWall is free and you can sell the furniture locally.

With big pieces of furniture you have to sell locally so that the buyer can pick it up in person.

I think you should sell each piece individually.  Most people are looking for a specific piece like a dresser, not a full set.  Of course, in each individual listing you can mention that you are also selling the other pieces and would be willing to sell it all as a set for a discount.

  7. You need to sell those items face-to-face.  There are too many people who know how to separate you from your money or your furniture thru the internet or thru the mail.  Don't do it.   Sell it yourself thru the paper or just putting up signs in stores. /

  8. Ebay! Try auction.
