I have found the Fisherman's Landing Inn in Rocky Harbour, but is there anywhere else to stay that would be better from personal experience.

Any ideas would be appreciated!!

  2. Gros Morne is a huge park, and you will find many interesting places to stay.  Most of Newfoundland is actually very "connected" now with Internet, cable and satellite TV, etc. - probably among the best in rural Canada, so you will have all the amenities you need.   The highway through Gros Morne is very good in most places.  Rocky Harbour is a central location and gives relatively good driving access to other parts of the park.

One of the  most beautiful places to stay would be anywhere in Woody Point - awesome views and many events planned for tourists - I would choose Woody Point over Rocky Harbour.  There are a few B & B's in Woody Point.  Wherever you choose to stay, you would be wise to make reservations in advance as tourist season is very busy in Gros Morne.   The drive from the main highway through the park to Woody Point (will take about  half an hour) will take you through some of the most spectacular scenery I have ever seen.

You must drive to Trout River from Woody Point and see the Tablelands along the way and eat at the little seafood restaurant there.  It has been written up in "Where to Eat in Canada" many times and has fabulous food.  Visit the Discovery Centre in Woody Point - great for kids and adults alike.   Make reservations for the Western Brook boat tour.

Wherever you stay, you will have a memorable experience in Gros Morne park.   I spent many years driving through that area almost everyday and the majesty of the scenery never ceased to amaze me.

Here is a good link that will lead you to acommodations in Woody Point and Rocky Harbour.  If you find that those places are already booked, ask them to give you the contact information for hotels, motels, and B & B's in Cow Head, Cormack and Deer Lake - a bit farther away but still within reach.  Camping is another possibility - the facilities are quite good.

    Enjoy your vacation!

  3. I was there about 20 years back, when I was but a kid, and it's a stunning place. The town of Rocky Harbour is right in the park, with a population of around 800-1000 people. Expect the most basic of services to be available. When I was there, we stayed in a cottage in the community. From the looks of the place, it looks like Rocky Harbour has come a long way since my last venture to the west coast. Just taking a look online, Fisherman's Landing looks like a great place, particularly by the standards of rural Newfoundland. It has all the comforts of home - in fact, more comforts than home, for some of us. I'd certainly stay there based on what I see.

If you're looking for a more rustic experience, though, there may be cottages available. Luxuries like jacuzzis and wireless internet aren't exactly standard features of a vacation around the bay.
