  1. I loved the area around the Spanish Steps. I don't recall the hotel, but it was marvelous...not a cheap area though.

  2. hi! i'm italia of Rome.

i advise you see VIA DEL CORSO, TIBURTINA, or STATION TERMINI from 10:00 to 12:00 bacause in this hours it's semi-crowded!

sorry my errors but i speak little english! ti auguro di vedere roma molto presto se ancora non ci sei stata, come io non vedo l'ora di vedere gli stati uniti (San Diego). CIAO!

  3. If you are looking to splurge stay at the Inn at the Spanish Steps. (www.atspanishsteps.com). It's the best area to stay in Rome, in my opinion, and this is a gorgeous hotel.

If you can't afford the above a wonderful 3-star in the area is Hotel Modigliani, www.hotelmodigliani.com.

Alternatively areas to stay in would be:

    Near Via Veneto (for shopping)

    Piazza Navona (for people watching)

Campo dei Fiori (again for people watching)

or in Trastevere for a real Roman experience (fewer tourists).

Another great hotel is Hotel Locarno near Piazza Popolo -- lovely classic Art Deco place to stay.

    Buon Viaggio!

  5. It really depends on how much money you want to spend.  Like a lot of folks I like to stay near the Spanish steps which is close to shops, good restaurants, the main train station (Roma Termini) and the Borghese gardens.

It can be expensive though but my wife and I both liked the Hassler and the Hotel Borgognoni.  The Hassler had a great special a couple of years ago where we got a double room and breakfast (amazing view of Rome from the restaurant) for $335 Euro.  This past April we stayed at the Hotel Borgognoni for $285 Euro and that rate also included a buffet breakfast.

I start looking for information on the Internet and generally start with the web sites offered by Fodors, Frommers and a place I recently found called Venere which along with hotel rooms also includes listings for B&Bs and apartments.

  6. i would recommend you hotel Ranieri via venti settembre, closed to the historic centre, and very well connected with taxi, bus service, and the cetral station of Termini...

  7. Trastevere, is the best.  Great area, good and cheap hotels, exceletent night life.
