We stayed at Peppers the Louise (Tanundra) a few weeks ago and it was fantastic accommodation and the inhouse restaurent was brilliant.  It is a great place to access heaps of wineries.  This place rates #1 on tripadvisor's ranking for Tanundra.  Trip advisor is a great site to get honest reviews from paying customers on places to stay anywhere in the world.  Much better than reading hotel's own advertising material.

PS: It is not cheap, but you did ask for the best place to stay!
