  1. First of all depending on how much time you have will answer your question. A 7 day cruise is a great way to see the Beauty of the sea, land, several ports of call & wildlife whether you start in Seattle, Vancouver or Anchorage.

A cruisetour where you either cruise first then landtour or landtour first is the best way to see more of Alaska & wildlife.

Holland America is the only cruise line to offer a 3,4 or 7 day cruise with a landtour. Princess cruise lines offers the best 5 star lodging.

May & Sept. offer the best rates. Sept. all stores offer their 50% off sales.

Weather wise some will say it rains alot, or it is cold.

I am currently on my 23rd cruisetour here in Alaska now. I am doing 5 weeks on land then a 7 day cruise. In all the times that I have been here have only had rain once for 3 or 4 hours. Temps range from the 30's to 80's depending where you are. Always alittle cooler on or near the water.

So first figure out how much time you have then price and visit each cruise lines web sites. At Princess.com you can sign up for email alerts that will show all the special deals for any cruise anywhere & you can also sign up for a free DVD.

This is a Beautiful places to see and explore.

    Check it out.

    ENJOY.

  2. I'd have to say the best place to take an Alaskan cruise is Alaska.

  3. The cruise ship depends on your age, and what you like to do.  If you're young and want to "party", you'll like Carnival or Princess Lines.  If you're more interested in LUXURY, then go on Holland America.  Go from June through the end of August....  Most of the ships stop at basically the same places (maybe just a change or 2, depending on cruise line, length of cruise).  You'll have fun wherever you go, so pick the cruise that's the right length of time, the right date, and the right price...and go wherever it takes you:)  (not that many choices there) ...  Make sure you take enough money to go on at least one helicopter ride over a glacier!!... and DO take 1 warm sweater/jacket for the day that you're in Glacier Bay.....

  4. San Francisco, Seattle and Vancouver are places to start your cruise. Lot of folks are now opting Seattle as the airport is less than an hour away and the passport issue is no hassle.

May and mid september are when you get relatively cheaper rates (although not as good as the caribbean) but there is a risk of plenty rain and wind! Not to mention the floatplane and helicopter tours might be canceled 'cause of bad weather.

June, July and August are the best best time! And the temp rarely goes over 65! If the sun comes out, it is awesome.

Best ship depends on many factors like budget, age and activities. Holland America caters to 50s + best and lot of Australians are filling the ship. Younger and 'party' crowd like the carnival ships although they only have one ship coming to Alaska, the Carnival Spirit. Princess ,NCLand RCCL are other options.

You can chat on cruise-reviews.com or cruisecritic.com for some excellent money saving tips. Your excursions can be expensive very fast! Some sightseeing tours are better off arranging while on shore. Any bookings through the cruise line invloves a commission for them.

    Enjoy !!

    Majestic Gems

    Juneau.

  5. I did a cruise/tour with Princess cruise lines and it was the best ever. We flew into Fairbanks, stayed over night in a hotel booked through Princess. Next day we took a train to Anchorage, then to Denali park. We stayed in Denali park for two days, did a wildlife tour and a husky homestead tour where we went to Jeff King's the famous musher facility. It was a great tour. You learn how the puppies want to run naturally on there own form like 6 weeks old. After that we got on another train to the coast and got on the ship for a 7 day cruise to glacier bay, Juneau, Ketchekan, Sitka and?. The best our we went on  after boarding the ship was the white pass railroad. Really worth the money for this one. Going to Alaska has been our favorite cruise so far, so much, we want to do it again, but a different route.
