can you suggest the best places to visit in NZ when you're on a tight budget and you've got 2 weeks to do it in. appreciate all the tips i can get. cheers!

NZ is actually not that expensive, and you'll be able to find backpackers hostels and supermarkets anywhere in the country. If you travel by bus, Atomic Shuttles is a very economical company to use. A night in a hostel costs between 20 and 50 NZ$ a night, and it is perfectly possible to feed yourself well on NZ$ 5 a day if you cook yourself, which you can do in most backpackers hostels.

As for the bus, it's roughly NZ$ 10 for every 100km you do.

If you want to save money on your trip down here already, simply fly to Auckland and start your tour there, rather than flying on to the South Island. Pity, as the south island is lovely, but so is the North Island, and you'll find more things to do per mile there, which will also save you money.
