I hate going to popular tourist attractions. Where is somewhere unique and amazing to explore in Italy?

  1. A little town an hour or two north of Rome called Montelcino.  It has some of the best wine in the country and sits high atop a hill that overlooks the plains all around.  It also has a fort on top of the hill that is now a wine tasting place.  It is incredible the view is incredible.  Of course Rome is incredible with the history, but if your trying to get away from people its not your best bet.  Venice is excellent but expensive.  And anywhere in the mountains, is very nice too.  The food is better in the north, but the weather is better in the south.  It all depends on what your looking for.  But Montelcino is definitely highly recommended by this traveller.
