Where the fish are and that is not as flippant a response as it seems.  My favorite area is along the edges of weedbeds.  The off-shore edge will often be the hiding place of the larger pike and muskies.  Pickerel seem to favor the in-shore edge.  Trout and salmon range more freely after baitfish and bass tend to hang with structure.  So it all depends on what you are after.
