  1. I have used Kodak online with very good results. Also the Fuji kiosk at Walmart. Walmart online is pretty poor, cheap but poor.

  2. Most photo problems are related to the camera or the user.  Most of these companies that you have listed use good machinery that is calibrated daily.  If you want top notch photos, you need a top notch camera, know how to use it and to go to a store that will spend a lot of time correcting mistakes that were made.  That may mean spending more money.  There are slight differences among machine manufacturers, where some colors are favored slightly, but it shouldn't make much difference overall.

  3. Yesterday my friends and I went to Target to print up some pictures. The quality was surprisingly good. I was impressed. Especially since some of the pictures were taken from my cell phone.

Another thing that might help the quality is to use simple photo enhancing software to edit the photos on your computer before you take it to a printing place.

  4. Are you sure it's the lab quality, and not your originals?

As far as I know Costco has the best printing equipment of the chain stores - to the point that some pros take their printing needs there. Of course you need to have one nearby and be a member. You must upload online and pick up in store. If yo do their mailorder, they'll just send it to one of the third party labs. But their in store equipment is top notch Noritsu machines well calibrated and with ICC profiles available online so that you could calibrate your colors at home. Then, if you do calibrate colors, there's an option to turn off automatic adjustments so that your prints come out exactly as you made them. But all of that is only available if you upload online and pick up in store.

I'm printing my work exclusively in Costco, and they are doing great job. Plus, if something comes out wrong they are willing to re-print as many times as needed until you're satisfied (or your money back). They've done it for me on several occasions.

Pictures are processed and sent from the UK with Royal Mail in a few minutes after ordering and usually arrive faster than from local shops.

Both http and FTP upload methods available.

They print pictures on Fujifilm paper (in fact, they are an affiliate of Fujifilm UK) and print quality is very good.

Given the actual Dollar to Pound or Euro to Pound exchange rate, it's quite cheap too (6" x 4" or 6 1/2" x 4" pictures cost 0.10 pence each)
