Where is the best place to visit Mexico between these three cities?

Guadalajara

Mexico city

or

Monterrey.

just 2 of us going to travel/sight see and what not

Number one = Mexico City = Many museums,  Teotihuacan, Xochimilco; shopping at Bazar Sabado.

Number Two = Gualalajara = shopping in Tlaquepaque and Tonala; Day trips to Lake Chapala and tequila tours.

Never been to Monterrey, but I believe it's very industialized.

Maybe Guadalajara.....

Home of the Tequila and Mariachi, Mexican Handcrafts in Tlaquepaque and Tonala, Colonial buildings as the Cathedral and the Degollado Theather, Chapala and Patzcuaro Lakes close to the city, also close to Puerto Vallarta for a Beach break or Mazamitla for a Cabain-in-the-Mountains (surrounded by pines) for the week end.

Plus the city is very clean, green and modern in a mexican style. (not modern like monterrey= industrial-modern).

Guadalajara would be my choice.  Lots to do there and nearby.  Also Puerto Vallarta is only about a 5-hour bus ride away.  I'd highly recommend Patzcuaro, an awesome village about a 4-hour bus ride away, not touristy, very peaceful.  First class buses are worth the little extra money.  Or just stay in Guadalajara.  Perfect weather practically year-round. October is a great time to go, lots going on then and it's just after the rainy season so everything is green and flowers bloom more than usual.

I have not ever been to Mexico city, but I have been to Monterrey and Guadalajara. I have been all over Mexico to many many cities, and there is only one place I did not at all like. I did not like Monterrey at all! It was hot beyond belief. The people were rude, and theft, and violence was high. The food was not all that good, and the zoo was pitiful. I felt so bad for the animals. It did have its up sides like the historical museum was not like a museum at all, and the park boat rides were exciting. I would say give Guadalajara a chance. If you are looking for night life then yes Monterrey would be fine just please be careful. Monterrey is not at all a place to go sight seeing too. I would say go a little further down like to San Luis Potosi or further. San Luis Potosi is my favorite and that is where I am now making my home.
