I think that all depends on your age.  Different places have activities and appeals to different ages.

I've been to Acapulco and although it was fun, I wouldnt see an older couple having as much fun there as I did.  But if your younger and like the bar/club scene, Acapulco is a great place to visit and its BEAUTIFUL.

Mexico is a very big country with thousands of great places to visit. It's the same to say what is the best place to visit in USA than to say what's the best place to visit in Mexico, the answer would be very subjective.

If you like the touristic beach resorts where most USA citizens go, I would recomend Los Cabos, Cancún or Puerto Vallarta. If you want to know the colonial Mexico, visit the cities and towns in El Bajío such as Querétaro, Guanajuato, San Miguel de Allende, Zacatecas, Morelia, etc. If you would like to know about the amerindian Civilisation and its peoples go to South and Southeastern Mexico (Naturally Amazing and in my opinion the most beautiful region in mexico). If you like nature go to the copper canyon, to Calakmul, to Chiapas, to Tabasco, to the Sierra Madres, etc. There is an endless list of great places you could go.
