Where is the best place to visit on a holiday to Ireland?

I've never been before but it has always been a dream to go, think I'd sooner go to Southern Ireland, does anyone know of any nice places to visit?

There's no such place as Southern Ireland. You mean the Republic of Ireland.

In the Republic of Ireland, there are many nice places. What are you particularly interested in? Do you drive? Killarney is very popular because you can walk to a lot of the nice places outside of town (like Ross Castle, the Lakes and Muckross House) and there are lots of coach tours around the Ring of Kerry. It's a good place to start. You can fly to Farranfore airport, which is located between Tralee and Killarney.

All depends on what you want to do, Party, Listen to trad Folk Music, Walk in beautiful countryside ?????

Dublin is full of good pubs and not too bad for the Trad folk scene either, a modern thrumbing city - Gallway is not quite so hectic, but the city centre again has lots of bars etc, though it is also easy to get away from the hustle and bustle.

Lots of places have some sort of festival or event, such as Galway's arts festival, but the places with festivals tend to gett booked up well in advance.

If you like the idea of maxing out on traditional folk type stuff - Fisherstreet ( a smallish village in Co Clare) and nearby Lisdoonvarna are pretty good

for scenery, absolutely spoit for choice - lots of the West Coast, Connemara is stunning too

These are just a few places I have actually been too, I am certain plenty of other places are great, Irish are generally friendly. The country is very safe for tourists, etc etc etc..

We've bene going to Ireland for years.  We have a cottage on the Delphi Fishery at Leenane.   In that area are some of the most unpopulated but beautiful beaches in the world.  We have had fabulous days out there with picnics and cricket and what have you and then hit the Field Bar in Leenane for a drink and where when my daughter was 3 she was asked to leave because she was singing 'Ye canne throw yer granny off the bus' at the top of her voice over and over again!

Westport is a super town about an hour away from Leenane.

Galway is just wonderful.  You can go down towards the harbour where the cobbled streets are for great little shops and bars and restaurants - and they ahve some of the best hotels too.

But dont stay in a hotel - stay in a BB - thats where you get to meet the real irish people, and most of them do an evening meal.  We have stayed in some fabulous en suite rooms overlooking loughs and mountains and fabulous food to boot.

Cork is busy and lovely.  Kinsale is superb out there on the coast with lovely B&B's and more restaurants than you can shake a stick at - and they have a food festival there too.  The ring of Kerry has to be done as there is a fabulous national park there.  We prefer the west coast to the east coast.

Donegal is a wild place with great characters in it.  We once picked up a guy in his sixties with no boots on.  He flagged us down and begged us to take him to the nearest pub.  Weasked where his boots were and he said his mother had confiscated them to stop him going to the pub.  My husband gave him £20 to buy new trainers and he was last seen disappearing into a pub waving the note about his head.

You must drive and move on and around and just experience everything.  We stayed in a lovely little town called Cahir (pronounced Care).  We were in a restaurant and asked how you pronounce it and the waitress aid 'well the tourists say Cahir (care) but the locals call it Cahir (care).'  They are wonderful and when I die I want my ashes scattered on those green and verdant lands!!

I live in Ireland and have visited many different places. Some of my favourites are Killarney, Cork city and Galway city. These are all wonderful places.
