Where is the best place to work in China for a European?

I am thinking of going there for at least a year but do not wish to be completely isolated. Any suggestions?

My sister taught English there a few years ago, there are always load of gap students & various other folk teaching English, there  various pubs, clubs & hostels in different cities across China that are known as hang outs for Europeans & Americans, it won't be a problem to find company.  Even travelling in China, every one follows the same routes from the same travel guides - invest in either the Lonely Planet or Rough Guide books on China.
