  1. Look in the phone book for jewelry appraisers.  My insurance company would not accept an appraisal by a jeweler.  I needed to get my rings and earrings appraised by a certified independent jewelry appraiser.

  2. i got mine done at jarod's.  it was like $120.  you can probably do it at any real jewerly store.  you'll most likely have to set up an appointment because they usually dont have an appraiser there full time

  3. a reputable jeweler that is GIA certified

  4. I got mine appraised at Wilmette Jewelers (obviously, in Wilmette-just outside of Chicago).  They bring in a certified appraiser once a month.  He was $65 (a lot cheaper than Jared's or the other chain stores) and he did a great job.

  5. A reputable private GIA certified jeweler, as the first person said. If it's a private establishment, even better. None of the chain stores.

  6. I would go to an independent jeweler.  The fancy chains will try to get you to trade in stuff so they can make money off of you.
