  1. Look up Youth Hostels in Rome

  2. I went with my younger adult brother and my parents to Rome.  We had to have separate beds for my brother and I.  We found a hotel that had a family room.  We stayed at the Carriage Hotel which has a great location right near the Spanish Steps.  It was a bit hot because the AC is old but the walls are padded and so it was quieter than you would expect for that area.  We got a decent deal on a room that slept four people.  More recently, my husband and I went to Rome on our honeymoon.  We stayed at the Hotel San Franceso and loved it.  It is modern and affordable with elevators.  I don't know if they have family rooms.  It is in a cool artsy neighborhood with lots of restaurants and amazing views of Rome.  However, it is far from the sights.  You would have to be willing to take the trains around Rome.  It doesn't take long to get to the sights using the train and the stop is right there.
