Yesterday Lacie had some blood (like smeared on the top of her head)...I checked both dogs for any cuts...nothing. Today Loki has blood smeared on his scruff (I notice when I lifted his muzzle up for a rub). Again...checked both dogs for cuts...nothing. What the heck???

  1. Have they been chewing on bones or rawhide? Sometimes, dogs will chew so vigorously that their gums will bleed a bit.Maybe this is what happened and they got blood on each other.

  2. They could have been play fighting and the blood has come from the gums, especially on the scruff of the neck. Milly will do that to Amy, she grabs hold when they are running and hangs on. If they grip tight enough sometimes their gums can bleed a little, but when you check their mouth there's nothing there.

If there's no marks on them anywhere else that could have been bleeding, then this sounds like the only possible reason to me.

  3. check there teeth for gum bleeding.

  4. maybe they got out of the house and killed another animal. did you look inside their mouths? maybe had a tooth fall out and kissed the other one

  5. Maybe on the foot or toenails. You also might want to check inside their mouths.

My cat had blood all over her once and it turns out she had bit her tongue and then went on a bathing spree.

  6. i came home one time and there was red marks all over the front of three of my dogs paws and scruff areas and on one dog's head - immediately i thought they were bleeding, then i found out from my dad that they were playing with a red sharpie marker - crazy how much like blood those things look like.

so anyways, monitor ur dogs for the next few days, if it keeps showing up then it's definitely of concern, if they seem fine as of now then just keep an eye on them for behavior changes.

  7. Check the pads of their feet, they may have a lesion on their feet.

Max had an issue like that a while ago, there was no blood anywhere, not even on the carpet, but when he scratched his nose or rubbed the top of his head, he would push it just right and would get blood on the top of his head.

If there isn't anything wrong with their feet, or no visible injuries, do you have a red towel, a red shirt, a red pair of pants or even a red blanket that they may be rolling on or l*****g and its bleeding onto them?

Max was blue for two weeks before we figured out that he had a towel hidden in his crate and he was laying on it and it was bleeding on his fur.

  8. I don't know, but, what did the vet say about Lacie's lump? You might have already said, but, I haven't been on here much this week.

  9. oh, scary.  I first thought maybe your dog lost a tooth - the same thing happened at my house and it turned out the puppy was losing it's teeth while wrestling with the other puppy.

Maybe whomever is petting them has a cut on his/her hand and got it on the head/scruff??

  10. not Lacie's

  11. honestly I don't know, sounds scary to me.. But my dogs are my childern, so maybe you should take them to see the vet soon and maybe theres something going on, maybe dry skin? may not be anything major lets hope not anyways.. please let me know... k?? best of luck

  12. it might be there teeth, when my dogs play tug of war there teeth sometimes get bloody. then they would grab each other and get blood every where.

  13. Do they have their dew claws? My puppy has his and one day when he came running to me, I saw a trail of blood behind him. I panicked and looked him all over. He ended up tearing one of his dew claws. The vet cut it off and put a bandage on it along with some pain killers even though he didn't seem to be in pain. It has since grown back and thankfully it hasn't happen again.

  14. Are the dogs outside at all?  My question to you is, are you sure its blood?  It could be antifreeze dripping or some other thing leaking.  Maybe they are going after squirrels and actually catching them.  If it keeps up take them to the vet.
