just as I was watching tv there was a burning smell, similar to burnt toast in the area of my tv and sound receiver, then it started to smell near one of the speakers, its gone now but could it have been caused from the lightning outside?

  1. Yes indeed it could. Call the insurance company and go buy a new unit. Most likely that one is forever dead. RIP

  2. the same thing happend to my moms tv. just randomly started smelling a burning smell. I think ours was because it was overheated. it could be as simple as that or it could be something more complicated

    hope that helped

  3. There's dead babies in there, don't look though.

  4. It could be anything! all these components have electronics in them as well as coil wires for speakers and transformers. If the unit isnt working any longer the lightning often takes out the bridge rectifiers and transformers ( usually first in line after the plug in) If it is working fine it may just be a resistor or something got to hot. If it is still working properly chances are you dont have to replace it immediately. If it smokes or smells when trying to use it, throw it out.
