Where is the cheapest place in London to live?

I'm hoping to get a one-bedroom flat somewhere. It doesn't have to be fancy or anything, but I just wanted to know what the average monthly rent is here and what the cheapest area is. I don't want to move out of London. Don't care how rough the area is (I've been living in a rough area of London for all of my 19 years). Thanks =)

  1. I would disagree with west london.....SE is kinda cheaper than most I have seen, Lewisham, Catford, New Cross, Peckham even...the closer into central the more expensive.

  2. possibly west london, basically the rates go up if the place is near a bus/train station, near to shops etc ...... if you have a car and don't mind travelling a bit for shopping, you could get a place which isn't near a bus/train station and such.

  3. Have to agree with the South London posters, particularly, Deptford, Lewisham etc, but you do get what you pay for, albeit personally i would rather pay not to live there.

  4. Blimey - by the time I get to the end of this sentence the prices will probably have gone up, but I'm thinking SE.

Check http://www.easylondonaccommodation.com/ and http://www.gumtree.com/ and see what you think.

  5. Try Balham or

    Camberwell

    Good Luck

  6. The Tube Station Bench Is Alright On A Friday Night!

  7. I would agree.. if the place has a train station rather then a tube station it goes down in price such as Lewisham.  Check out the following for ideas:

    http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/system/gal...

Places like Streatham Common, Crystal Palace are cheaper.  Check out the loot newspaper.  Good luck!

  8. A good place to start to find the prices of rentals is www.findaproperty.com

Start with south london in places that don't have tube stations because anywhere near a tube station is going to be higher than somewhere with only a train station.  You could try Penge, Sydenham, Camberwell, Forest Hill etc.

These places still have great bus and train links and are all served by night buses too.
