I want to paint the bedrooms at home. Where is the cheapest store/online store to buy matt paint? Red in one room, blue in the other. Thanks.

  1. I cannot recommend the use of "Cheap" paint, All that happens is you have to give 2 or 3 coats to cover, so you use that amount more. The other and more important thing, your time ! Why do the same job 2 or 3 times when you can do the job once ? I have bought cheap in the past, I would not dream of doing it now.

  2. I agree with LG - cheap paint is a waste of time. Look out for big stores with offers on good paint or look out for their 'seconds' couterwhere they have knock down prices on dented tins.

When you've finished pop the remains into an old clean plastic milk container and mark on the room, colour etc for touching up later. They take up less space and don't go rusty. Some paint still comes in tins.

  3. Try and buy a well know brand of paint in a sale.  Homebase seem to have regular 10% off days on Fridays and Saturdays at the moment. And most of the DIY stores are holding some kind of end of summer sale now.  This way you will get a good quality paint which will cover better and use less paint. Matt vinyl will help to hide slight imperfections in the wall surface, and the vinyl in it means you can still wipe marks off.

  4. Matt Will be the job, and B&Q do excellent paint and at cheap prices :)

  5. Wilkinsons do a good range of relatively inexpensive paints in numerous colours and finishes.  I found that they were as good as the major brands.

  6. poundstrecher is preaty cheap

    matt will cover that easy

keep whats left for future touch ups,

  7. Buy Dulux vinyl matt emulsion from B&Q.

No undercoat. No issues.  Two straight coats.

  8. home depot.  you will need a primer ... it'll make it easier.

the type of paint you buy depends on where it is going.

Matte paints dry with no sheen and don't reflect light; it also hides imperfections.  This finish is hard to clean and is best used in low traffic areas.

Eggshell finish is like matte but with a bit of shine when it dries. It suits walls as it washes slightly better than flat-finish paints.

Satin finish has a little more shine than the eggshell and is washable.  It is good for high traffic

Semi-gloss paint has a little shine when it is dry and it does show any imperfections on the walls . It is good in rooms that require regular cleaning; it is good for kitchens and bathrooms.

High-gloss paints have a more shine and  reflect light.  With this finish any little imperfections shows up. It is normally used for trims and such.

  9. Woolworth's own brand is quite good (much better than B&Q or Homebase own brands) and quite a lot cheaper than Crown/Dulux

  10. Make sure the surface to be painted is clean and sound.  You don't need an undercoat except to cover stains.  Don't use cheap paint (Buy cheap, buy twice!!) Brewers are a really good one stop paint shop in UK.
