Cheap? Ferrets? That's a laugh. Ferrets are not cheap. In fact, they're probably as expensive as owning a dog. They can have health problems that can cost several thousand dollars in vet bills.

However, if you're talking about ferrets, themselves, as cheap, not including vet bills, a good cage, food, and supplies, check out http://www.petfinder.com and your local classifieds for people rehoming their ferrets. Adoption fees are very low, and affordable.

Through a shelter or through a classified ad. Pet stores almost always overcharge for them and it's more likely that they are sick if they are from a pet store.

id say the best guess is a professional owner/breeder who knows the history of the gerbil and they would take care of it better than a pet store
