  1. The Air bag light is lit because the auto test function has found a fault, Take the car to any good garage who will do a plug in diagnostic to obtain a fault code the most common code on the mk 4 golf is:

00588 - Airbag Igniter; Driver Side (N95)  Resistance too High,

This code is caused by the failure of the Clock spring that provides the connection to the drivers air bag on the steering wheel the part costs £40.00 approx for a genuine part + 1 hours labour to fit.

Please also note: Air bag light doesn't come into the UK Mot as yet, If its illuminated at the time of test it will still Pass, But bear in mind that when lit all the safety devices IE seat belt pretensioners air bags are disabled and wont deploy in the advent of a accident.

  2. Look under the seat.  I take it you're talking about what others have already told you about your airbag light.  If jiggling the connection doesn't do it, you need a pro to look at it, you could have a dangerous fault.

It is not an MoT failure, by the way, t'other guy is thinking of an abs light.

  3. You can't legally do this. The system is wired so the only way of extinguishing the bulb is fixing the fault or removing the dash & physically taking out the bulb.

Not fixing the fault will make the car an MOT failure & unsafe to use.
