I am making my first trip to New York; I love true NY Deli food; and want to stop at that particular deli, along with Hello Deli, Manhattan Deli, New York Deli, and any other great Deli's that Answerers tell me are terrific.

my fave: Kreplach (sp?) soup, corned beef sandwiches and kosher dills

thanks for your help

  1. Katz's on Houston and Ludlow Streets.  There's a sign on the table where that scene was filmed.  The restaurant has two sections - waiter service (where that particular table is) and self-service.  I suggest that you sit in the self-service area - if you order your sandwich yourself, and tip the counterman a dollar or two when you order, before he makes the sandwich, you'll get a bigger sandwich.  The sandwiches come with a complimentary dish of pickles - they will be half sours unless you specify sours (or request a mixed plate.) Great corned beef, pastrami, tongue, brisket and chopped liver.  I always get my sandwich on club bread (sort of like Italian bread, but softer) - I think Katz's is the only place where you can still get it.  I also get a Dr Brown's Creme Soda.  Katz's is great - it's a real New York experience.
