Where is the downtown in Boston Mass?

My friends and I are planning a trip to Boston Mass on Labor's Day weekend. None of us has been to Boston, can someone please tell me what area/streets are considered as the downtown Boston? Thanks a bunch!

Downtown is the areas around Downtown Crossing, City Hall Plaza (Government Center), Boston Common and the Quincy Market areas

The streets would be parts of State Street, Washington Street and Tremont Street and many smaller streets such as Winter Street, School Street, Milk  Street, Temple Street and many others
