  1. (added later)

God it's h**l to get old!! LOL

I wrote this at 2 am getting ready to go to work, and as soon as i got a couple cups of coffee in me I knew I was wrong, what I described was the radiator housing , sheesh.

I have worked quite a bit on dash 8 and 9s so I guess I shouldnt say about the 7s.

On the newer models it is on top of the car body right behind the cab, sort of over the main generator and electrical compartment.

On any GE models I have been on in the last 20 years have been on they have been high up on the car body toward the rear in a sort of flared out housing.

There may be exceptions, If there are some railfans will undoubtedly have shcematics or diagrams of them.

  2. I don't think dynamic braking ability was ever offered on the C-30-7. It became an option on later models, and was on top. I don't think you'd really see it from the ground.

  3. Dynamic brakes was not a standard option when the c30-7 was designed.  This was one of the major design changes with the dash 8 locomotives (-8)  On the dash 8 and dash 9 locomotives its a circular grill on the roof right behind the cab.  There are two doors on the engineer side that lets one service the blower motors to the grill.

There may be some with dynamic brake -7 units but since it was a add on may be in different locations.

The large flares on the back end of GE locomotives is the radiators for the engine.
