  1. go buy one at auto part store so you wil know what it looks like and a lot are easy to remove just finding where its at is the hardest part autozone might beable you tell you where its at easy just to have a shop change it 20 bucks maybe

  2. Most of the time,it is mounted to the frame under the car.It will be a round can looking item about 4 inches long between the gas tank and the fuel injection system located under the hood.If you look under the car,They are usually bolted to the side of the beam with s strap and have a rubber hose coming in and one going out. They are under slight pressure so be careful when breaking the line from the filter because the pressure can cause gas to spray out on you. Some even require a special tool that can be purchased at o riley's or auto zone to break the line from the filter. It is simple to change out but make sure the filter is installed with the arrow or inlet running from the tank to the engine.

    good luck,hope this helps.

  3. fuel filter is a filter in the fuel line that screens out dirt and rust particles from the fuel

  4. Find where the gas goes into the carburetor or  injector, it's a small plastic tube with folded paper in it it's not Hard.

  5. the fuel filter is a round deal located right outside the fuel tank or is internal inside tank

  6. Besides your efforts to blame the fuel filter there are a few other items and simple ways you might check your car as to why it is "running like c**p".

Firstly check at night in the dark, under your hood!  Mostly Saturns run a bit hot and are very efficiently engineered and a simple "spark" check will help a great deal with an efficient motor as yours.

Open the hood and start the unit in the dark.  then look for visible "archs" of electricity along the spark plug wires and coil wire.  These will be the wires (largest) running from the coil pak to the cylinders in which they will fire the combustive mix.   If you see ANYTHING!   Regarding electrical like archs along these paths, then you have a simple ignition problem.

Keep in mind in order to run your engine, it needs Fuel, air, compression, and SPARK!

This is a common prob with all cars and will cost the least to check and replace.  Spark plugs are usuallly NOT an issue as since the invent of Fuel Injection, has nearly extended the life of plugs by 3-4x as opposed to carburated vehicles of the past.   If you find NO VISISBLE probs in this area then I will guide you to the next possible issue(s).   Good luck to you and let me know k?

  7. You are looking for a metal can (at least in my experience thats what it looks like) that goes in your fuel line. If you look closely at the engine you can see some wires around where the spark plugs are but they are attached to your fuel injectors. Your fuel injectors are plugged into a fuel rail which is in turn attached to the fuel line and if you follow it back you can find it.

Though there really is no such thing as checking a fuel filter. The do not come apart and are not transparent. If you take it off some people will note that the gas looks dirty (gray/black) but it's best to just find a filter at autozone or another auto parts store that is for your car and that way not only can you replace your filter but you also know what to look for since usually they look the same whether they are by the same maker or not if they are supposed to go with your car.
