  1. Like virtually all fuel-injected vehicles, it's in the tank. A fuel filter replacement is worth a shot, as it is relatively cheap and easy enough for most do-it-your-selfers to accomplish. De-pressurizing of the fuel system first is recommended. Tripping the Inertia switch on Ford vehicles is often quite easy, with a sharp rap of the knuckles on the side of the unit.

Beyond that. testing with specialized equipment, in the hands of a competent professional can often save you a lot of money in the long run. Dropping the tank is often a messy job on an older vehicle, with obvious hazards involving explosion of the fuel if done by a novice.

Besides the fuel pump going out altogether, they can get weak enough to fail to provide adequate fuel pressure for proper vehicle operation. The fuel pressure regulator can also be a common cause of problems.

  2. Fuel pump is in the gas tank on your model.I would have the fuel filter changed first. Most of the time these electric fuel pumps do not work and then work again. They just stop working..
