  1. All diesels have injection pumps - the Ford powerstroke is a CDi common rail diesel engine, using a high pressure fuel pump.

Your previous response is obviously confused as to the difference between oil & fuel pumps.

A common rail engine uses it's pump to supply pressurised fuel to injectors, which are then opened electronically by the engine management unit. This is identical to the way in which most petrol / gasoline injected engines work. In petrol engines, the fuel pump is usually electric & mounted in or near the fuel tank, but in the Power Stroke diesels, as with most diesels, the pumps are mechanical & engine driven - in th 6.9 & 7.3 litre engines, they are belt driven from an auxiliary drivebelt, on other variants, the pump is gear driven from the crankshaft.

  2. Listen to bikertrash dude, he is sending you down the right road, JG has apparently never seen a Ford powerstroke.

  3. A 2003 Power-stroke has no injection pump, the 7.3L and the 6.0L engines both use hydraulically operated injectors.  The high pressure oil system is used to amplify the pressure of the fuel inside the injectors.  There are several good sites on the net that will help you understand the operation of the engine if you look.  As for the oil injection pump, it is located in the front of the lifter valley on a 7.3L and towards the rear of the lifter valley under a cover plate on the 6.0L.  If you are having a problem let me know exactly what is going on and I might be able to help you out.

I am adding this in response to the next answer, listen to JG and you are SOL, he has no clue what he is talking about, Ford never used a common rail fuel system until the 2008 model year and the introduction  of the 6.4L engine
