  1. I consider it rude to bring up controversial topics in a social setting, especially with the intent of stirring up controversy.

  2. Controversial means people disagree about it.  For example, the topic of stem cell research is controversial because some people think it's right, some think it's wrong, and most will not change their minds.

"Rude" really isn't debatable - if something is rude, most reasonable people will agree that it's rude.

  3. It is ok to have a contrary opinion about it.. that is not rude. that happens all the time.. the important thing is to accept other peoples opinions as well.. to not say they talk nonsense and not to get into a fight about it.. but to discuss it in a mature way and maybe one can convince the other. and if not then that's ok. Everybody is entitled to their own viewpoint that is not being rude. being rude is to boss or bully someone that they are mistaken and that only your viewpoint is the correct one..  that would be an example of immaturity and rudeness and arrogance.. xx

  4. controversial is a subject that has many pro's and con's but whether it's right or wrong is a decision can't be made.

rude is an offensive topic with the intent to offend people, not wanting to hear opinions but offend others

  5. Controversial:  When an strong opinion is expressed AFTER giving thought to your listener's feelings, reactions, etc.

Rude:  When a strong opinion is expressed WITHOUT EVER giving thought to your listener's feelings, reactions, etc.

    Have a polite day.

  6. the first one offends the other doesnt
