Where is the michigan thumb and why is it called that?

The Michigan thumb is located in eastern Michigan. It is a peninsula surrounded by Lake Huron. It is called this b/c the lower peninsula of Michigan looks like a mitten and this peninsula would make up the thumb of the mitten. The Michigan thumb is the south eastern peninsula of Michigan.  It's called the thumb because Michigan looks like a big mitten and the peninsula looks like the thumb of it.

The Michigan thumb is a peninsula on the Lower Peninsula. The Lower Peninsula is shaped like a mitten and the "thumb" part is called the Michigan thumb.
