  1. The Michigan thumb is located in eastern Michigan. It is a peninsula surrounded by Lake Huron. It is called this b/c the lower peninsula of Michigan looks like a mitten and this peninsula would make up the thumb of the mitten.   2. The Michigan thumb is the south eastern peninsula of Michigan.  It's called the thumb because Michigan looks like a big mitten and the peninsula looks like the thumb of it.

  3. The Michigan thumb is a peninsula on the Lower Peninsula. The Lower Peninsula is shaped like a mitten and the "thumb" part is called the Michigan thumb.
