the Pipe has had many deaths over the years and the overcrowding doesn't help.  I agree that Mav's is iffy but at least there is water under you.  The big break in Tahiti, Teahopoo is really ledgey and breaks right onto the reef.  Thats the nastiest looking break that I have seen.  I was there for the contest last year.  The channel is so near the break that you can sit on the boat and get hit by the spit.  Guys come out of the tube and skate right over to the boat.  Quick beer and back to the waves.  Awesome.

Oregon coast.  Other than being thrashed to death on the rocks, Rolled over by a log or dragged out to sea and never returned it's very possible you could freeze to death.  They shot the surfing scenes from Point Break in Oregon.

For my Money it is Mavericks. For starters, it is so d**n cold, then the rocks, And it is difficult to pinpoint your location in the break, so it is easy to get caught inside when a large wave shows up suddenly.. Just dip your toe in the water there it is instant pain.. I have surfed Waimea, though it never got over 11 feet when I was there... I have not Surfed Pipe or in Australia, just giving my two cents on Mavericks..

I think it depends on the person's ability and skill level.  

Pipeline is very dangerous because of the reef formations below the water.  Instead of regular, relatively flat reef, Pipeline has big deep caves and protrusions that can knock out, trap, and cut up anyone who wipes out at the wrong spot on the wrong wave.  Pipeline gets pretty big and heavy, and can be a very dangerous spot if you don't know what you're doing.  Many people wear helmets when surfing here.

Technically, Half Moon Bay is kinda a mellow, long boarder's wave.  Around the corner to the north is where Mavericks is.  That wave is dangerous because of the sheer size of the wave and the potential rock hazards if you drift that way.  Mark Foo was one of THE BEST big wave surfers in the WORLD and he died at Mavericks.  It wasn't even THAT big of a wave (relatively speaking).  

Other dangerous waves to consider are Jaws, Cortes Bank, Cloud Break, Waimea, but personally, I think the most dangerous wave is and Teahupoo in the South of Tahiti.  Check out the picture on the second link.  There is NO back to the wave.  The back of the wave is where the wave gets it's power.  That is the part of the wave that is going to fall on you when you wipe out.  There is no back to Teahupoo.  

The third link is a pic of Malik Joyeaux surfing Teahupoo.  He was awarded Tube of the Year for this ride in 2003/04.  However, maybe I should change my answer, Malik died in 05 at Pipeline.  So, maybe I change my answer to Pipeline.  

I don't know.  Honestly, I wouldn't surf any one of those waves at their peak performance.  I'll leave that to the MASTERS of the sport.
