Where is the nest for these beetles?

Okay so I have larder beetles in my house. They are known to eat dead animals and get into protein sources (grains or pet food). I find these bugs mainly in the kitchen but they are slowly spreading out. I have found all but 2 in the kitchen within 2 feet of a drawer we keep our sugar in. The bugs have gotten into the sugar so it was tossed and new stuff that was bought was put in containers that seal. My only problem is that I have riped apart my kitchen and cannot find the nest. Besides the garbage which is emptied regularly there is nothing for them to get into and I cannot find where they are coming from. Tomorrow I am doing a full cleaning of our unfinished basement but I do not think they are down there as only 2 have ever been found down there and I was finding these bugs when we first moved in. The only other place I can think of is maybe the heating vents? I am lost and completely disgusted.

  1. You do not need to find any nest to kill them. Think, c**k roaches, there are products out there where the roaches themself carry it back to the nest resulting in large scale death. However, this needs to be followed up for some time. Nothing is perfect so no product will be so perfect as to kill all of them, the survivors will continue to breed unless follow-up is carried out.

I'd do the foggers initially, the fog will go where you can't, then use the roach powder to be carried back to the nest, as above.

  2. they may be coming from outside or living off of something in the walls of the house.

treat the suspected areas with permethrin

here are two sites with basic info about them and how they can infest a house

    http://www.ipm.iastate.edu/ipm/iiin/blar...

    and

    http://www.extension.umn.edu/yardandgard...

Both are helpful in larder infestation.
