  1. On the Pacific Coast Douglas fir grows to the second tallest tree in America. They also attain great age. The oldest tree is about 1300 years old and was discovered by David Douglas in 1825. It is 221 feet high and 45 feet around the trunk - over 12 feet in diameter. The Rocky Mountain variety is smaller. The largest example grows in Idaho and reaches 130 feet high and 19 feet trunk circumference. In Colorado this tree reaches a maximum size around 100 feet high and two to three feet in diameter. Colorado trees often live to 300 or 400 years. I am really not sure.  I found this info.  but that is about as far as I am willing to go.  Hope it helps..Love honey

  2. The oldest Douglas Fir on record in the U.S. was 30 miles east of Mount Vernon, WA. It was more than 1,400 years old when cut, according to McArdle, Richard E., Walter H. Meyer, and Donald Bruce. 1961. "The yield of Douglas-fir in the Pacific Northwest." U.S. Department of Agriculture, Technical Bulletin 201. Washington, DC. 74 p.

Currently the oldest known Douglas Fir is found on Vancouver Island in British Columbia, and is estimated as 1300-1400 years old.

  3. The oldest Rocky Mountain Douglas Fir that was accurately recorded is 1275 years old and is located on an old lava bed in New Mexico.  This has protected it from many things and is quite a sight to behold.
