  1. polaris or the north star is located in a "desert" with not many stars around it. it can be located as described in answer one.

  2. You want to locate Pole Star (Polaris) from your place? OK.

1 .First find out your "latitude" (I don't know where you live), from a school atlas.

    2. Put a small table in the open field (try to find one), free from any power lines even at a distance and free from any Iron objects.. Make it as horizontal as possible by a 'spirit level'.

    3. Mark a line pointing to 'North' with the help of a magnetic compass.

    4. If you can get a Sextant it fine. Pointing it to North take an elevation fix with your latitude angle. Or (no Sextant) measure up the latitude from a scale pivoted to the 'North' line at one end of table.

The star in that direction in the sky is the Pole Star (Polaris), that is the 50th brightest star (not counting planets, which I hope you'll be able to identify.). Commit its position to (your) memory

Check: After a couple of hours you'l still find the star there even though others have moved to new positions. After a few months (2 or 3 or 6) still you find Polaris there, while old stars have been replaced by new sets of stars all over the sky..

  3. Polaris is the "tail" star of the Little Dipper constellation (Ursa Minor). It is located less than 1° from the celestial North Pole.

Find the Big Dipper (Ursa Major), and extend the line connecting the two front stars of the dipper part upwards. After about 5 distance increments, you will reach a fairly bright star. That is Polaris.
