I have a 1996 S420 and the manual does a very poor job of identifying parts under the hood, and the parts under the hood are either unlabeled or labeling in German. So I was wondering if anyone happened to know where the power steering reservoir was, I would hate to put power steering fluid in the wrong tank. Also if anyone could tell me where the overflow tank is or how to take the plastic cover off of the engine to access the air filter it would be appricated.

  1. The power steering reservoir is at the front of the engine ( passenger side IIRC ) and it has a black cap on top of the black rectangular reservoir.  The cap has a built in dipstick to check the fluid level.

The overflow tank is on the passenger side ( again, IIRC ).  It's pretty easy to spot as the radiator cap is actually on the tank, not on the rad on this model.

There are no clips that you need to undue for that engine cover, just lift up to release it.

  2. If i am remembering correctly the p/s reservoir is located just above the pump on the drivers side of the engine. It's a silver cylinder with a silver cap held on by a black nut. The nut should only be hand tight, unscrew it and lift off the silver cap.

  3. Donald A is correct, unless you a uro car, right hand drive.
