I was doing the dishes and I dropped a lot of vegetable remains in the garbage disposal, I tried to turn the disposal on but all it makes is the "hum" sound (so I know it works, its just that the garbage disposal reset button has been hit. Where is the button at?

  1. Usually on the bottom. It's a recessed button, so it's a little hard to feel.

  2. It sounds like it doesn't need to be reset but rather that the system is binding.  There is something in the disposal that is binding the gears/teeth and it needs more force to break that bind than what your disposal has to offer.

The good news is that at the bottom of your disposal there should be a hole in which a special hex key should fit.  This gives you a direct line to the gears.  Insert the hex key and twist.  It may take some elbow grease to do this.  Once it starts moving your disposal will be back running as normal.  If you don't have a hex key, you can p/u one up at almost any big box hardware store...

    Hope this helps.

  3. on the side or bottom its a small black or red button but I dont think it will solve your problem

  4. I put a lot of joy soap into the G/D to lub it when breaking free a jam it works great!

  5. Like others have mentioned, use the alan key. Just don't forget to remove it before your test the unit. Also, turn the key back and forth sevral times. Safety first

  6. If it makes a hum it is jammed or the start winding on the motor is shot. First off do not use the offset wrench unless unit is shut off. If you do try and unjam unit with wrench installed it will whip around and hurt you. So shut off unit use wrench to unjam, still with unit shut off, even unplug if possible before you do next step, try and remove the unjammed piece of vegetable from the mouth of disposal. If it still doesn't unjam use a broom handle and try to rotate impeller from the top. Once unit unjams remove wrench etc. plug unit back in turn on switch and see what happens. If it still hums but impeller turns when motor is shut off then it is your start capacitor. Unit also has a red button on bottom beside hole you put wrench in. Hope this helps.

  7. bottom of the unit feel around and you will fill the small button popping out its about the size of a pea push it in and

    good luck

  8. If the motor humms it is not the reset button you need the allen wrench that turns the motor it is stuck. At the bottom of the unit you will find the reset button and the place for wrench in middle of motor.Good luck.
