Where is the safest area in Mexico City for lodging?

No offense, but many of you Americans are afraid for their safety.  You live in one of the most violent and dangerous countries in the world and you are afraid to come to one of the safest countries.

Your roads are not safe , your schools are not safe, your streets are infested with racist gangs and 20000 murders a year.

Mexico has a higher "per capita murder rate" 14000 last year.

None of it over skin color.

Since you became a country How many deaths in THE WORLD are Americans responsible for?

Many Mexican are non violent, fun loving, friendly an have a love of life like no other.

Dont think that the ones that went to America and were and still are treated like "second class dogs" and respond accordingly like most people would are anything like the vast number of good Mexicans.

Children here go to public schools in uniform here to minimize  

discrimination .

Far too much violence on your T.V.

Mexico does not make such movies although they are seen here and translated but a good parent can tell them that its an American show and a way of life in America.

Think about that.

I am sure there are other good places to, but one I am familiar with is in  the Zona Rosa, just 2 blocks from the American and Canadian embassies.  It is modestly priced and very quiet and private.   The neighborhood is very nice and safe. The owner speaks English.  It is a B and B created from 2 huge old mansions...very nice, but not luxurious... and the prices are great.  If you do decide to go there...there is NO sign on the gate at #69 Rio Sena...just a tall dark blue gate with a bell...and  you need to give them a few minutes to walk up front to the gate.  The review says it is popular with "mature" travelers...but I have also seen many young people there...from all over the world.   See site below.
